Chapter 1: ( Cassette 1: Side A)

Clay Jensen starts off they story as the main man character. He's emotionally involved when he receives a package in front of his door. Opening the box he listen to the tapes making him realize that he listing to a dead girl voice named Hannah Baker. Terrified, he finds out that him and 13 other people are the reason why she's dead. Listing to the first tape it starts off with Hannah and Justin. Justin is the first person on her list and it talks about him and Hannah. They get close and a rumor starts around school that they had sex on their date but, Clay finds out the truth about what really happened.  After finishing the first tape, he decided to go to Tony's and ask for his Walkman and headphones( a tape player). When he gets to Tony's he helps his dad with his car and he finds the Walkman in the back seat along with the headphones. Instead of asking for it he takes the Walkman without Tony knowing and after a awkward conversation he walks away with it and the  headphones. He stops along the way and takes the stuff out of his pocket, then he puts on the headphones and listens to the next tape.

Chapter 2: ( Cassette 1: Side B)

Clay continues the next tape which reveals the next person on the list. Alex Standall is included because it seems that he the one who made a list that says Hannah has the best butt. People started to harass and make fun of Hannah. Clay thinks twice about the list and heads to his first destination on the map that Hannah also made to lets them live the action of her life. He heads to Blue Spot a corner store and stands outside. He hears explain that because of the list that a person that she did not name yet had grab her butt in the store which made her upset. Clay realizes the person she talking about but doesn't reveals their name.After listening to the gruesome tape he pops that one out and listen the the next one.

Chapter 3: ( Cassette 2: Side A) 

This next tape talks about the next person on Hannah list named Jessica Davis. This tape explains how Hannah and Jessica met before school ever even started. They became friends when they had to meet up with a old counselor and be 'buddy's.'' They instantly hit it off and decide to start meeting up at Clay next destination called Monet's Garden Cafe and Coffee House. Spending their time mostly everyday there, this is were me meet a previous character from the list named Alex Standall. He was new to town like Jessica and Hannah and they all became friends and so forth. All three of them we're like best friends until they started to drift apart. This is were the list fits into this chapter because we find out that Jessica and Alex started dating leaving Hannah out of the mix. They broke up and so Alex was upset so, he made a list with Hannah having the best butt and with Jessica, the worst butt. Jessica was furious so she asked Hannah to meet at Monet's were they use to go and when they both got there,  things started escalating that Jessica blamed Hannah for the list that Alex did. Jessica slaps Hannah out of angry and exit's Monet's. The tape stops their as Clay thinks about the whole situation.

Chapter 4: ( Cassette 2: Side B)

Now this is were things start to get interesting. We kick back off to the tapes as it starts off Hannah talking about the next person on her list names Tyler Down. Clay heads to next destination which is Tyler's house. Hannah explains that Tyler been stalking her though her window at night. She starts to hear clicking noises coming from her window and it makes her paranoid which makes her leaved her window down for now one. Through the tapes she decide to tell someone about her Peeping-Tom which names comes up soon. Hannah and the mystery person decide to catch this person  stalking her night. As they try to lure the person they start to do some weird things to each other which makes the stalker take picture. They decided to jump the stalker then and pull the window blind open revealing indeed that it is Tyler. After the mystery person found out it was someone from their school that was stalking Hannah they rushed out of there scared and afraid if someone saw them together. The tape stop but at the end it reveals the mystery person that actually the next on the list. 

Chapter 5: ( Cassette 3: Side A)

Courtney Crimson, the next person and mystery person that Hannah was with to catch her Peeping-Tom. She one of the popular girls of the school. She a person that every girl wants to be, every boy wants to get with, and sweet with everyone she meets. Perfect girl to like right? Wrong. As Clay still on his way to Tyler's house, Hannah talks about how Courtney kept ignoring her and leaves when she comes near her. Hannah wants to talk about what happened and become friends but Courtney does not. One day Courtney comes up to Hannah out of nowhere and ask her to go to a party with her. Hannah was suspicious at first but she finally agreed still cautious. Hannah thought they were going as friends but Courtney has other plans in mind. Meanwhile, Clay makes it to Tyler to see his windows busted up. As he's at his house a person comes up to Clay practically scaring him half to death. This person is actually the next person on Hannah list named Marcus Cooley. He encourages Clay to throw a rock at window and he also talks bad about Hannah making Clay mad a realizing that he's on the list too. Clay walks away and continues the tapes. We skip to the party as they both arrive and Courtney made up an excuse that she have to talk to her friends. Minutes later a guy come up to Hannah wanting to hook up because Courtney said she was that type. Hannah furious, went to go find her an came up with a plan. She saw Tyler at the party and asked him to take a picture of her and Courtney. Courtney didn't want to knowing that Tyler made Courtney upset, but Hannah made her take the picture and that picture is actually in the dictionary at Monet's where Clay found it. That ends the tape and Clay put in the next one.

Chapter 6: ( Cassette 3: Side B)

We start off as Hannah talks about something going on at her school called "Oh My Dollar Valentine. The tape goes into detail on how Hannah talks about how she signed up for it just for fun and that she went to the gym to meet one of the cheerleader (that will me mentioned again later on) to get her paper of people she got but before she can look on the list her phones rings which reveals the next person o her list named Marcus Cooley. Meanwhile, Clay goes to his next destination to a restaurant  called Rosie's Diner. Back the story, Marcus wants to go on a date with Hannah at Rosie's and of course she suspicious but decides to go. As Clay rushes to Rosie's, Hannah waits for Marcus and he late but he comes eventually but not alone. He apologizes for being late and him and Hannah enjoys a good time but thing take a wrong turn. Marcus put his hand on her thigh and goes up to far and Hannah realizes what this is really about. She pushes him away from him and he called her a tease while he left the restaurant. The tape stops and Clay make it Rosie's and what he hears reveal a memory of him and Hannah talking in the Theater.

Chapter 7: ( Cassette 4: Side A)

We start the story back off as Clay enter Rosie's and decide to take a seat. He decides to order a drink while he's there and his mother brings him the tapes, so after she leaves, he puts in the next tape, beginning the next story. This tape is about are next person on the list named Zach Dempsey. Hannah talk's about how in one of her classes their were making bags and people had to put nice things into them to make people better about their selves. We rewind back at Rosie's when Marcus left and Hannah was in shocked from what just happened. Here come in Zach Dempsey coming to help Hannah and apologize for Marcus behavior. Zach talked to Hannah when she didn't say anything and he eventually left. Hannah overheard Zach friends saying that he didn't get the date and that she realized that it was all just a dare for him being nice to her. Hannah left the restaurant and now back to school, she started to get notes in her bag, which she was happy about, but for some reason they stopped coming. Three week pasted, and still no notes from her bags so she realizes that someone has to be taking her notes. One day she decides to catch the person who keep taking her notes and she finds out that its Zach. She saw what he did and he saw her caught him and so he walked away like nothing happened but Hannah called down the hallway ''Why Zach?''  but he kept walking. While Clay listing to the tape Tony's there and Clay is shocked. They talk and then Clay continues the tape. One day in class the teacher read a note about someone thinking about suicide and some people thought that person wanted attention and the other felt bad. They note was written by Hannah and she thought the Zach would speak up about it but he doesn't. Clay finishes the tape and put in the next one.

Chapter 8: ( Cassette 4: Side B)

We continue the tape with a little poetry involved. We talk about how Hannah describes how poetry relates to the next person on her list named Ryan Shaver. Hannah talks about how him and her started talking and that they decided to switch poetry books because they both have a interest in it. Turns out it was the worst decision of Hannah life when one of her poem gets published in one of Ryan articles. Nobody knew it was her but some people thought it was her so they started to pick on her. Clay stops the tape and he see that it closing time so he leaves Rosie's and begins the next tape.

Chapter 9: ( Cassette 5: Side A)

Clay leaves Rosie's and when he gets outside Tony calls his name. He been waiting for him and getting into his car, he finds out that Tony knows about the tapes.Tony tells him that he not on the list buy that Clay is the ninth person on the tape and that he's been following the people who's had the tape. He explains that if they didn't listen Tony had a second set of tapes that he can share to the town why Hannah killed herself. Clay taken aback and Tony ask him what tape he's on and Clay tells him he's just finished Ryan's. Now you probably know the next person on the list is the one and only Clay Jensen. Clay is scared but it has to listen, so he puts in his tape and presses play. Now some of the tapes revolves around one night. The party. Hannah goes into detail on how a lot of things happened that night that you don't even wanna know what happened and some things you have to know what happened. Hannah talks about her and Clay ad how they real connected and had a decent conservation for the first the time. We move to them going up stairs because they could barely hear each other over the music and the couple beside them was getting it on to much and they will be revealed later. Anyways, while talking and laughing upstairs Hannah kisses Clay and things started to escalate. They go into and make out but at that moment Hannah thought about all the boys that did her wrong and she pushed Clay to get him off of her and she told him to leave. When Clay left Hannah was still in the room but two people entered the room which adds a new person on the list. Then Hannah reveal close to the end that Clay doesn't belong on the list. Clay stop the tape glad that he not responsible for her death but he does break down in Tony's car.

Chapter 10: ( Cassette 5: Side B) 

As Tony and Clay is in the car, Clay can finally say that no one blames him and that he's not the reason she dead. Knowing the fun is not over yet Clay clicks play and we go to the part when Hannah was in the room and to people came into the room. She explains how the boy was kissing the girl but she was out of it. He finally stops kissing her and decided to leave the room. Hannah decide to make her escape but then she hear voices coming to the door which makes her freeze. These two people that were talking about the people who we're already mentioned on the list. Their names are Jessica Davis and Justin Foley. Hannah continues as she hears two voice coming outside the door and one of them keep opening back and forth. One of the voices is Justin and the other person is someone who is kinda mentioned in the previous chapter, but she only describes him. He is know as Bryce Walker. Hannah makes her way to the closet as Bryce opens the door locking it. He walks over to Jessica unconscious body and were not going to get into details, but he violated her without her permission. After he was done Bryce left the room and Hannah exited the closet and wanted to scream but she couldn't. Hannah didn't watch but she heard and  knew that she could have did something, actually Justin and Hannah new they both could have did something but they both let Jessica done knowing that they could have stopped him but they were both to scared to.

Chapter 11: ( Cassette 6: Side A) 

Back to the story Tony and Clay are in the car and Tony explains what happened before Hannah death and he said that Hannah gave him her bike asked to make tapes. Now, we go back to the next tape that involves the next person on the list named Jenny Kurtz. She the cheerleader that helped Hannah with "Oh my Dollar Valentine". When Hannah left from upstairs Jenny came to her rescue and she said she can take Hannah home. Hannah fell asleep during the ride and then all of a sudden it was a big bag and then Hannah woke up. Jenny excited outside the car and she stared at the damage and the stop sign for a minute and then she went back into the car. Jenny told Hannah not to worry about about it but Hannah told her to call the police. Jenny didn't want to do that and Hannah kept worrying about it so Jenny told Hannah to get out of the car. Jenny drove away and Hannah decided to call the police at Blue Spot. She called them and they say there handling it and Hannah thought that she called already but she was wrong. Meanwhile, Clay walks away as he went their as his next destination. He takes that tape out and he puts in the next one almost done with everything.

Chapter 12: ( Cassette 6: Side B)

This tape talks about how Hannah wanted to kill herself. It talks about how Hannah was at the park walking home and that Bryce and Courtney came up to Hannah and invite her to the party. Hannah would have said no but she just gave up. She wanted to go deeper into the darkness so it will be easier to kill herself. They both lead Hannah into a hot tub and as Hannah got in Bryce started to get a little to comfy by Hannah and by then,Courtney left. He started to do things to Hannah that she didn't like and Hannah let him. Sh gave up like I said and she said that Bryce is the 12 person on her list. Clay stopped the tape and put in the next one, the most important tape of all.

Chapter 13: ( Cassette 7: Side A)

The last and final tape Hannah talks about giving life on last try. This tape talks about the last person on her list named Mr.Porter. He the counselor and English teacher of the school. Hannah goes to him for advice on what to do and at first their talking and laughing and then things turn bad. Hannah tells him about her getting raped and then he asked if she going to go forward and report it and she says no she doesn't want to.  He tells her that her two only option is to confront him or move on. Hannah cant confront him and she doesn't wan to move on so she decided what he needs to do and leaves his room. She wait for him to stop her but he doesn't. The tape stops and Clay starts to cry but it comes back on one more time as Hannah say her last words. After her  last words the tape clicks off ending the story.
